Kat lives in Evanston, Illinois with her husband, theater director Robert Falls, their three lively children, two cats, two guinea pigs, a dog, and a snake named Poncho. Together they face dangerous sea creatures and venture into the frontier town's rough underworld to discover the secret behind the outlaws' eerie abilities.

Knowing that her 12-year-old son loved reading about the ocean, Wild West pioneers, and (of course) the X-Men, she combined his interests and created the premise for a story that kept her up nights plotting and world-building. Kat's leap into prose came by way of a writing exercise. As a member of the WGA, Kat has had four screenplays optioned by independent producers and was hired to write a script for Disney Studios based on a pitch. Now she teaches at NU, where she is continually inspired by her students' creativity.

(To this day, her worst nightmares involve Calculus.) She went on to receive an MFA in screenwriting at Northwestern University. Kat Falls grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland and attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute by way of the professor's kid/free tuition plan.
